Smallest republics. Serie: Stupid Borders
Vídeo-art

Statement:
One of the fundamental freedoms of man is that of movement, but when we exercise it we find boundaries, limits, walls. Despite the brevity of our presence we behave as if the Earth were ours when in fact we are the ones that belong to the Earth. And that act of possession is the beginning of many problems.

I decided to investigate the borders, there are painful as the distribution of Africa, fratricides like the 38th parallel that divides the two Koreas or delirious as the system of enclaves between India and Bangladesh. And of course, the walls: The fence of Melilla, the US-Mexico wall; those of Morocco-Western Sahara, Saudi Arabia-Yemen, the fence of Hungary, the wall of Israel. When the Berlin wall fell in 1980 there were 16 walls in the world. In 2017 at least 65. These walls are the fruit of our hardness as a human species, unable even to live without these fictitious lines.

As an artist I decided to create a series of minimal Republics, microstates of a 100 m2 long for only one single day and inhabited by a single person. A palpable frontier, a country that lasts one day, as ridiculous as another that lasts 200 years, fictional entities, insignificant in time.

We strive to draw lines and fight for something that is not ours. I think that some day the borders will cease to exist and we will see them as something from the past, meanwhile I have decided to take a pulse to our senselessness, turn this gesture into a vital act and continue to make minimal republics until the borders or me, cease to exist.
